Indigrill – My first Google local guides meetup

The Indi Grill Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Many of my foodie friends had already been to Indigrill, I was planning to visit the place for a long time but wasn’t getting chance or a good company to go with. One day while browsing through my Google Local Guides Reviews I came across something called google food crawl meetups being organized by foodies across the world as an invite to friendly meetups at different food joints which anyone interested can join. Basically anyone can organize a meetup event and anyone interested can RSVP and join.

I came across an Indigrill meetup posted by FazeelUsmani  (level 10 on local guide), about 5-6 people had already RSVPd, I also marked myself as going, timing specified for the meetup was 7:30 PM. Now something you should know about me is, I am extremely time punctual, so I was there at 07:30 PM and the place was practically empty.

On one corner table there were 2 guys chatting, but they seemed to be waiting for someone. I asked the manager if he was aware about the event, he had no clue, then I asked those guys if they were a part of that meetup, the looked all confused and said No. So, I decided to wait as its really pretty normal for me to reach early to meetups and wait for others to join. The worst part of it all being, my phone battery was just 2% when I entered the restaurant. I waited till 8:15 PM, I was about to leave when I saw a guy who looked like Fazeel.

Ambience

He entered with a friend Bharath0497 and went directly to the table where those two guys were sitting. Yup!! they were actually his friends accompanying him, but they had no idea that he posted about the meetup. It was so much fun to meet them, interacting with localities makes it even better. Got to learn so much more about Hyderabad, got new food joints added to my list ?, learnt more about google local guides. In total, they surely compensated for the time they kept me waiting ?.

So starting with the overall food experience of Indigrill. Its another hyderabad restaurant with barbecue and grills, after Absolute Barbeque and Barbeque Nation. These two are well established barbecue branches, so you have to have some advantage over these to attract customers, be it lower price or better food. Indigrill surely didn’t go for the lower price, but they did try to concentrate on making better food. Now what I do no like about Absolute Barbeque and Barbeque Nation is that they put a lot of effort in their starters, but fail miserably when it comes to main course. Infact, I have honestly never been satisfied from their desserts either, they have so many options but out of them nothing can be said to be like a must have dessert.

At Indigrill, they definitely focused on quality as compared to quantity. Here’s the detailed description:

Starters:

Chicken wings: They served burnt wings and the pieces had so less meat, so we asked them to give good wing pieces with more meat. We returned the plate, while giving them the feedback. They returned with a new batch, which was so cooked properly and tasted much better.

Sweet Chili Pineapple: Sour – spicy – sweet at the same time, if you love pineapple you will love it.

Crispy chili chicken: Its basically chicken coated with crumbs and fried, hence giving crunchy outside, the spice coating was quite uneven, not spread all over the piece properly, crumbs were quite thick and uneven, could be improved.

Crispy corn and Cajun spice potato with red sauce: Both these dishes were my top fav from AB’s buffet menu, so glad they kept it in their menu too, I loved both of them, they did a pretty good job with both.

Gobi Manchurian: Another one of my fav starter, really good, flavorful, crunchy outside and softer inside.

Chat Counter:

Dahi Puri: Out of a variety of chat options, I decided to give Dahi Puri a try. They tasted like little balls of happiness, literally melted in my mouth, MUST TRY.

Main Course:

I was almost full after the starters, so I only moved on to Main course. I was really excited to try out some of the things:

Bhindi Do Pyaza: I had a such an amazing Bhindi Sabzi after so long, its really hard to find a food bhindi sabzi in Hyderabad, I hope the other North Indians can relate to it ?.
Channa Peshwari: Really flavorful, the gravy was medium thick, neither too flowy nor too dry. Loved the spice combination of the gravy, must try.

Crab in Szchewan Sauce: Reminded me of the time I tried Singapore crab. Sweet meat with spicy Szchewan Sauce, so beautifully complimenting each other.

Murg Dum Biryani: Great flavor with good quality, huge, tender and juicy chicken.

Desserts:

Gulab Jamun, Moong Dal Halwa and Mango Pastry: MUST HAVE, Don’t miss it, had such good gulab jamun after so long. Halwa was also not too oily or overly sweet, which generally is the case with restaurant Halwas.
Orange and Strawberry pudding, lemon chocolate cheese cake: Didn’t like the taste, seemed like an artificial flavor, specially disappointed with lemon chocolate cheese cake.

TIG Special Brownie: Highly Disappointing, very dry brownies. Big NAH.
